Coming soon for PC: Puyo Puyo Mania!

An open-source effort to recreate the Puyo Puyo games using .NET

Are you a Puyo Puyo fan? If you're bored of the official games because of their styles few and far-between, you're in the right place. Puyo Puyo Mania is a fusion of all the official games, encompassing all gameplay features with some brand new ideas added in, and will be able to replicate exactly the gameplay of Puyo Puyo 1, Puyo Puyo 2, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Super Nazo Puyo and Puyo Puyo Fever. If you want to play your favorite Puyo Puyo-style game with a different look and feel, or just don't feel like buying or otherwise obtaining it, that's exactly what PPM will do for you. You can mix and match gameplay rules and features however you like, play through six single player modes including one original one, battle against customizable AIs or other human players locally or online, and create new themes and profiles for your game.

Download

You can download the latest release (version 1.1) using the link on the left. Note that this version is still very early. READ THE README FILE and please report any bugs you find.

System Requirements and Recommendations

In order to play PPM, you will need Windows 2000, XP or Vista with .NET Framework 3.5 or higher.

A good spec machine is recommended as the game has some quite busy processing. Beta testing has not really taken off yet, but at this early stage we recommend at least a 1.5+ GHz processor with 256 MB RAM. Not much hard disk space is required (the current build is only 13MB). Note that these recommendations will probably change as more beta testing and further optimization takes place.

Contact

If you find any bugs, want to make suggestions or want to help beta test in-between builds, you can send an email or post in the Puyo Nexus topic.

For Hobbyist Programmers

With the creation of PPM (and some other programs, but mainly PPM), I've found myself creating a lot of general functionality to add to .NET, which I have put into an assembly called Plus. I am still adding more and more features to this on demand for the moment. At the same time as releasing PPM, I will also release a fully documented build of Plus with all source code. The main functionality in Plus so far is to do with playing audio using DirectSound, drawing using relatively low-level byte and integer arrays and many common minor features. If you're interested, be sure to watch this space.

Disclaimer: Puyo Puyo is owned by Sonic Team and previously by COMPILE. Puyo Puyo Mania is not a reverse-engineering project nor does it include any official game in full. While some resources used in Mania have been extracted from official games, no such resources are required for correct gameplay and a minimal "make-your-own" version with no proprietary content will be released in addition to the main package release.
